Big Challenge

It’s the end of September.  And all of a sudden I thought of singing Greenday’s “Wake me up when September ends” =)We resumed our work and we're glad that the flooding here in Paranaque subsided.  The devastating outcome of typhoon “Ondoy” traumatized even young kids who suffered most from this massive flooding in most cities here in Metro Manila.  Even the nearby towns experienced landslides and mud flows aside from as high as house-deep floods.  What we saw in our TV and heard from radios showing the effects of the storm can make your knees weak from pity.  All the things, houses, the source of your income and precious life were lost because of what happened.

When I saw in the news that major relief operations is needing volunteers to pack and distribute the relief goods, I wished I can go there to help.  But I have work and weekends are filled with things to do.  So I was happy to know that we have our company’s initiative relief drive to donate used clothes, medicines, foods and water to help our unfortunate countrymen.  We put a big box in the lobby and we gathered some used clothes and things from our houses and donate, it’s the least thing we can do to help.  We thought of going to Antipolo City to check on one of our office mate that was affected by the floods but he text us that they are alright and safe but their major problem is that there is no electricty and water on their area.

I know that it’s easier said than done.  But we hope that our countrymen can recover from this massive lost of property and lives.  God will always be there to help us get though from all these challenges.

And today is my sister Glenda’s birthday.  She want to have it cash instead of treating her to a dinner today, and her wish is granted.  May she have many more birthdays to come, good health and happy life ahead of them.

After the Rain

Finally the rain is heavy rain is over, still raining but unlike yesterday. Typhoon Ondoy left the Philippines with more than 40 dead and thousands of homeless people, destroyed properties from a record breaking rainfall since 1967 in Metro Manila that leads the government to declared Metro Manila and 26 more areas in Luzon under the state of calamity. When I saw the news in TV, we are so stunned that “Ondoy” turned several parts of Metro Manila into a water world. I really felt weak from what I saw. As if these floods will sink the whole places in just several hours. It was raining non-stop and my first time to experience this extreme weather condition and we can only pray that my friends and relatives are safe in their homes.

We are one of the lucky ones living in a higher place here in Paranaque, we know that our neighboring barangays are suffering to floods that almost reach up to half of their houses including my brother in-laws house in Salvador, Paranaque. We lost the electricity yesterday afternoon and till this morning. My sisters and my mom stayed here overnight because all the roads going to their home are flooded waist deep. They came from my nephews scheduled check-up to pedia that morning, if they just knew that the rain will worsen that afternoon, they wished they just postpone their visit. It was so hot that night despite of the rain but it was nothing compared to those people who are trapped in their roofs, no foods, no water, soaking wet and waiting to be rescued. Let’s pray that they will all be safe and this nightmare will be over so soon.

Here are some pictures I gathered while surfing the news in the net.

Tropical Storm Ondoy

We are suppose to hit the mall because its weekend. But since tropical storm Ondoy stops all the business, parties and strolling because of his massive rains that floods all the major streets in Metro Manila making it impassable. We are bound to stay here in the house and wish that everything will be alright outside.

I watched some breaking news and was shocked that all the roads and bridges are flooded and are neck deeper. I’ve heard what PAGASA said that this typhoon creates these entire floods in just three hours, non-stop. My office mates in their 24/7 shifting schedules are stranded in the office because all major roads going out from Sucat, Paranaque are all impassable. Imagine that! AFP sent some rescue groups and all affected families had been evacuated from their homes. I was so thankful that there are no classes and work today or this will create more problems.

Here are some pictures of the floods here in Metro Manila. I hope this will be over soon. We have to take extra precautions, ready our flash lights, emergency lights or candles just in case the lights went out. Let’s be positive, pray and chill.

Shares of Sorrows

I’ve heard some heartbreaking news. The death and loss of someone you dearly love is imaginable. I admit that when Tatay (my father in-law) died, I don’t know what to do. It’s my first time that someone I used to live in the same house is forever gone and you can’t see him anymore. But I managed to go on with the flow with the help of my husband and we gave each other the strength to move on. This morning, we heard the loss of the innocent baby of our former office mate due to illness, and the story behind that family is not ordinary ( I wrote about that in my previous posts) we are so sad because it’s a family matter and we can’t do anything to help her but through prayers. I hope the baby is happy now with our Dear Lord.

We have our own share of sorrows in this life. I had experience not to eat a proper meal for 2 weeks because I was heartbroken and I thought the pain is unbearable. But after I drained my eyes from the tears, I moved on. With the help of my friends and family I started back to where I used to be, friendly, happy and positive. I cannot advise you on what to do when you are feeling sad and lonely and in pain. We are once became friends until something happened and things changed and I felt that it's much better this way. We often talked about family problems and everything that can lift up our heavy feelings and we both know it feels good that we have someone we can share about our frustrations or happiness in life. But I wish that you can surpass the pain and I know you can do it. I believe in you. God will show you the way.

Sores

The mouth sores on my tongue are hurting thus preventing me to talk much.  My friends would often notice it because I’m quiet and inactive. (lol!) I usually had these mouth ulcers when my period is coming or the sudden change in weather. Rinsing my mouth out with brine (a warm salted water) sometimes help but still painful especially when eating solid foods.  One time, I decided to use the old ways of putting “tawas” or  aluminum Hydroxide on the open mouth sores and it hurts like hell that I cried out loud and hubby came rushing to my side and asked me what happened? Lol! Don’t know till when can I endure this pain and I hope soon.

Well, there’s another type of sore that I know.  These people that are distressing, unpleasant and annoying to the eyes which we called eye-sores. My friend is experiencing this and she can’t do anything about it because they sit side by side at work (ha-ha!) how unfortunate! Now, the only remedy she knows is to put a headset and concentrate at work and tried to maintain her composure and pray that the story telling is over. And that's my advised to her also.  Life is good, so don't waste your breath to these eye-sores =)

Photo Moments

We went to Mall of Asia last weekend and we saw the photo tribute for the late Pres. Cory Aquino from the five day wake and funeral services.  The shots were all good and from those who weren’t able to see all those moments like me, it’s worth a trip to this photo exhibit and stop by and see this one of a kind photos from well known photo journalist who covered the event since day one.  You can see the deep emotions from these photos from the people who attended the wake and funeral.  The photos were published in major international and national publications.

I guess our routine trips to the mall is not just strolling or shopping around but witnessing one great event through this exhibit =)

Star News

I was browsing some US showbiz news online when I read something about Kanye West outburst to Taylor Swift during her acceptance speech for Best Female Video award in the recent MTV awards night.  That was so rude and celebrities reacted against him. Well, Beyonce made a gallant act on saving Taylor by calling her again to finish her speech. It was all over the news and in the You Tube and also, I think the Michael Jackson tribute by Madonna and his sister was so cool.

Dirty dancing is my favorite dance movie of all time.  It became a super hit movie in the year 1987 with many people fell in love with the main man, Patrick Swayze.  And who would forget the movie Ghost with Demi Moore?  It was one of the super blockbuster movies of all time and I once watched it over and over with my friends.  It is in the breaking news that he died yesterday due to pancreatic cancer.  He’s a great loss to the Hollywood industries.  But his music and movies will always be with us forever.

Old Memories

It’s been a rainy September this year. And were almost in the middle of the month and next month, October, is our wedding month. A while ago, when im cleaning one of our drawers to throw away some of the unused or broken headsets, chargers and wires, I opened one of the small boxes which contain mostly of receipts, food recipe cut outs and papers. I found one thing that I never thought I still have with me. It’s the receipt of the dinner we had in Waterfront Cebu City Hotel during our first wedding anniversary. We went there for 5 days and we enjoyed places and every minute that we spent together. Time really flies and now we are about to celebrate our fifth year together. We still don’t have plans but I wish we could go somewhere out of town just like before. But i hope the rains will stop.

I still cant think of any gifts that he might like. Men things are really common but expensive. I still have a month to do that. Might as well ask for some suggestions =)

Talented

Franzine is now 3 years old, she can now appreciate things around her. And like my nieces and nephews, she is talkative, lively and cheerful who never fails to ask why in every answer you gave her. She likes to dance and sing though she can’t pronounce words perfectly (in short, bulol) but that doesn’t stop her from talking fast and wandering around. She loves fried chicken so much and sometimes want to eat just salt and oil mix with rice, haha! poor girl! =)

But toddlers are moody, but when in the good mood, expect the unexpected. So, when I asked her to dance for me because I need to check on my camera if the video is still working (but that’s just my way so I can pursue her to do it). I played her favorite dance song and the video can tell you what I’ve been telling you about her. Enjoy! =)

Events Today

Hubby’s sad today. Why? Because when the rest of us are enjoying another non-working holiday, electronics and bpo’s company are exempted from the special proclamation and that includes his company. Last night, they had to work overnight for a special project in which they have to adjust their working time for their US counterparts. He went home at 6am today and as much as he wanted to rest and get more sleep, his phone keeps on ringing and he has no choice but to go back to work again.

My sisters and I went to see Aubrey at her school while they practice volleyball. The four sisters are complete and we’re joking that we are indeed a stage Tita’s, ha-ha! Of course, Aubrey got so conscious that she hardly made it on the service area. So we stayed there for just a few minutes and bid her goodbye. But we gave her the snacks and water and wish her goodluck.

Aubrey Reine during her volleyball practice this afternoon

It’s raining again and I’m here stuck at home. Need to do something to keep me busy. Tomorrow is yet another day.

Happy Times

It’s so sad when I saw that my female love bird died in unknown reason. I just saw the pair the night I went up to sleep just to found out that the wife died in the morning. They said that if I left alone the other pair, it will die too because of loneliness. My family and I went to Cartimar in Pasay and bought this cute little blue female love bird, she’s so cute that I thought she’s a perfect match for my yellow male. And it’s true, they are such a lovely couple (though at first they stayed away from each other for a while). Their nest is new and my sister gave them a cuttle bone.

The rain can’t stop us from making this weekend a memorable family day. My niece and nephew stayed here in our house and I’m so glad that they can feel so comfortable with me even without their mommies on their side. Franzine is the newest addition to our big family. She’s my cousin’s daughter whose working in Dubai (with her hubby) and she can make us laugh with her adorable smile and talents. She likes to sing and dance, especially the song Nobody by Wonder Girls. When in the mood, she would show us all her dance moves and actions. And she likes to stay with us during weekends. So when I bring her to Mall of Asia today, I let her ride in Carousel with Aubrey (to look after her) and I saw how that little gesture made her very happy and she even hugged me after the ride.

We all went to Quaipo and Ongpin yesterday and my sister treated Mom with a gold ring. Strolling around with your family can make a big difference in our busy schedules and that is enough for us.

Whenever they visits me, it was always a jam packed room. I can always feel that my room is too small to accomodate them all =)

Changes

The sister of our administrator here in our office passed away last Sunday. And tonight is the last night of the wake, so we all went there in her place after work and pay our respect to her family. We are almost complete in attendance (including the couriers) that we filled the chairs and tables outside their house. Our condolences to Santos family and we pray for the eternal repose of her soul.

September 1 marked the sudden changes in our organizational chart. Our immediate supervisor was transferred to another project and far away from all of us and will be replaced by a new set of managers and officers in charge. It’s been three years that we all worked out together and tried to make everything all right for this project. There are ups and down but I can say that this team is one of the happiest I’ve been with since I worked here 6 years ago. I can always feel the sadness in my heart seeing someone going out (and never come back again) and saying their goodbyes. But as we know, there is nothing permanent except change. One day, we will all come to the point of deciding what is best for us and just hope that it will be for the better. So to our supervisor, good luck and just be happy and may the force be with you always.
