Gone Too Soon

I got up from bed at 8am and like the others, I checked for some messages in Viber, SMS and Facebook.  Imagine the shocked I felt when I saw a Facebook post about a dear friend from my previous company who passed away that morning.  And my mind raced into one reason, is it COVID?  And yes, it is due to COVID.  And my heart breaks into pieces. My former boss who called me a minute later to confirm the news. She read it through Facebook post also and someone confirmed it to her.  A former colleague who’s with him in one account inform me that it due to cardiac arrest. He has some underlying condition pre-Covid (diabetes and perhaps, high blood).  And they thought he’s going to make it.  He even replied to his team, so far so good, when asked on his current condition.  He was in the hospital for just 7 days.

It was so sudden that all his friends, colleagues, most especially his family were literally got the saddest news that Saturday morning.  NO one is expecting this. And though we haven’t seen each other since our surprise meet during McDonald’s fun run in Mall of Asia last 2019, we talked in messenger if there’s a chance.  Covid is cruel.  It strikes the world and alter the course of every life.

I cried inside for him.  He has a full life ahead. He just 47 years old and living his life and on top of his career.  And while my heart was aching, I thanked God on the second chance He gave me when I was sick last April.  He made me strong. God healed me and gave me courage that I need to think that I will get better and sooner.

May you rest in peace with our dear Lord, my friend.  With HIM, you will feel no pain and only happiness will reign.  I will always remember how you believed in me when some turns their back on me.  I will never forget you. Please pray for us.

When We Were Young

Today I called my high school best friend and ask her how she was.  I never had a chance to talk to her through phone except some greetings in FB when someone from our family had a birthday.  Our last meet up was pre-Covid time and it’s been almost 2 years.

But she’s my best friend, no matter how many years that we haven’t communicate we know that we are true to our oath, BFF for life!  We still have our old phone numbers and even the landline home number though I know she is quite forgetful.  I must remind her that it was me except when I call her, and she knew it was my voice no matter how I change my tone.

I told her I had Covid, and she was quite shocked.  I told her some details, but I insist we must see each other to talk more about it since we are both fully vaccinated now.  We always just meet at SM Sucat and it was both near our area.

It brings back to some memories we had in high school, college, when we are both working, when we get married, I was one of the godmothers of her first child, invite each other on some important occasions in our family.  We had our youngest daughter a month apart.  March 12 and April 21 of the same year.  We talked a lot, laugh a lot and share each other funny experiences.  I was the naughty one in high school and she is more on the timid side.  I remember when I’m making funny prank or jokes within our group (during our reunion) and I look in her eyes, she immediately told me silently, “no… not me, not me please” and I laughed so hard I got tears in my eyes.

We are not getting younger anymore.  I look back at the times when we are full of adventures during our high school years and it become  one or twice a year meet up after we got ourselves busy in our married and daily life.  Our sadness, our frustration, our what if's. But the energy in our eyes, the reminiscing moments, the laughter, it’s still there.  We can only look back, but one thing is for sure, the bond is still there, stronger as ever. Just like before ….  when we were young.

So to my BFF, EST. This blog post is for you 💖💜

In the hands of God

When I first met you years ago, on my first day in the office, you smiled at me.  That smile promised me of the many wonderful years ahead with you as my work colleague.  We may never be that close but I know when I needed a helping hand; you never hesitated to offer me one.

We shared the same passions, reading and laughing out loud.  I remember the times when you borrowed my Harry Potter books and every time you returned it, you never forget to include my favorite box of Cream –O vanilla cream filling sandwich. There are times that we just have to dig on foods at the pantry and we tell funny stories that we end up hurting our tummy and our faces aching because of too much laughing.

I will never forget the day that I had a misunderstanding with my colleague and things went wrong.  I never told anyone my side in the story.  Just when I heard you having a deep conversation with one of our colleagues and it seems that you’re debating on something.  And when we’re having a time alone together that day, you told me that one believed that the misunderstanding was all fault.  But you stands by me telling that person that there are always two sides in a coin.  You believed in me even though I remained silent though out that whole issue.  And I will appreciate that my whole life.

Though you decided to be a stay at home mom and wife, we never cease to communicate. That's what social media is for, right?  And then you offered me to learn how to blog.  And that changes everything, my long lost dream to write and to express my feelings, my plans, my endeavors, you challenged it all.  You help me to set it up, teach me how to write a post and paid the price of being recognized.  It was so challenging and I’m forever grateful to you for all of that.

When I heard of you having difficulties again with Lupus, I prayed to God to give you more years to come and take the pain away.  This world still needs you to help the others and be with your family for a longest time.  But I guess God needed you more on His side and that He decided He needs you to become our guardian angel.  And so, He wants you to rest from all the pain.  I will never forget you, friend.  Thank you for all the wonderful memories and for sharing your life to us. I know heaven is a beautiful place because they’ve got you there. May you rest in peace, Milet

A Merry Date

Despite the numerous cancellations of venue reservations, moved dates, change of plans and stressful preparations, we were able to have a free time for everyone.  Though we have to endure all the hardships of peak hours and traffic, we celebrated our much awaited and mostly anticipated Christmas party with Joj, Jai and Alec.  And it’s all worth it. When I saw Alec entered the room, I had a moment that the room started to light up.  He greeted us with a smile and a big bear hug and the sweetest kiss ever.  We never wasted any single moment and we take pictures and pose for pictures with him.  When the twins came, they brighten the room even more.

We sing, we played games, we eat our hearts out, we talked about some news about them, and we teased our favourite teen love team.  And we continue talking amidst of all the giggling and screaming fans of them in the busy Mall of Asia; we were able to share some stories though our Starbucks coffee.  When Alec left our group and the twins strolled around and did some shopping I knew our time is over and we to call it a day.  It’s almost midnight but my thoughts are with them and it made me smile.  They are the best PBB housemates I ever supported; I will never regret any single moment I spend with them.  And wish I can see them again, very soon.

October Get Together

After many months of planning and collaboration with other groups, the much awaited get together party with the sweetest and lovely trio of Jai, Alec and Joj was held last Sunday.  Thank God that their schedules weren’t on our GTG schedule and all is well that afternoon.  I was so stressed out but it’s all worth it.  I can see the smile and laughter and they were jiving in with the crowd.  Their family was so supportive and even join the games.  I couldn’t ask for more with the group I have today.  They’re the best, despite of the fact that some of them are miles away from us, you can feel with the way they supported us that they are just beside us, tapping our shoulders and telling us we can do this.  And we did and I’m so grateful for our group.  Different folks and strokes and different point of views but we are one.

We end our happy night having a videoke sing a-long near the twins place.  And we went home all tired but happy.

Sing a long

It’s been so long that I haven’t been in a videoke night out.  My friend’s keeps on planning for our bonding time but our schedules never met and so we just keep on planning, different places, time and occasions.  So when we still have funds left and we decided to enjoy our time together, I immediately booked a reservation in Centerstage and told them, it’s now or never.  We decided to invite Tin and her family and good thing she has to attend the opening of a bar just a floor below our place and they came with her family and friends.

I’ve been in dentist that afternoon and I worried that I might end up just singing the song with them without any microphone.  But my love of singing urges me to try singing even a high note song and I passed the test of courage. Ha-ha! We ordered cocktail drinks and we chomps down pizza, barbeque, cheese sticks and onion rings.  We end the night talking over coffee and planning for the next night out.  It’s fun having your friends around you and having a good time once in a while.  It relieves the stress from your daily routine at the office.

Christmas Gifts

Just want to thank to some dear friends for the gifts and wonderful message this Yuletide Season. While I never expected to receive the fruit basket from one of our customer, I’m grateful that they did. My hubby got most of the gifts from friends and colleagues but it was an overwhelming gift of wine and liquors! Well, giving wine is my last option too if I can’t think of anything else to give to a friend.

Another surprise if from hubby’s cousin working in Dubai, she gave me lots of baking utensils and an expensive one too! Really, that is certainly good news this Christmas. She also gave hubby a complete set of Gillette fusion that includes a razor, lotion, after shave and gel. I heartfully thank also to our friends who remember our baby Nathan, I’m quite overwhelmed to know that aside from giving one to me or to my hubby, they now included Nathan in their lists. Thank you, friends and God bless you all!

Together Again

I decided to take a break from watching and getting involved from the PBB show this year. My last memories from a girl teen housemate we supported before ends up in a disaster and I don’t want to have another one again. Hubby asked me if I’m sick knowing that I am not watching my favourite reality show and I told him I have no time since baby Nathan occupies most of my time now.

But my online and fellow supporters before are still very much friends in the cyber world and I’m so glad that despite of what happened we tried to reach with another no matter how busy we can be because of our work and professions. We wanted to see each other before Christmas and we planned countless of dates to meet up but we end up cancelling the dates because of busy schedules and prior commitments. So I told them that no matter how we tried to be together again, we will end up incomplete because December is the busiest month of the year. So we agreed on Dec. 18 date and we went on complete of not

It was a blast and I am so happy to be with them again after so many months. We talked a lot about anything and everything, we exchange gifts, we ate lunch at Gerry’s Grill in Glorietta 5 in Makati and we are still full when we went to Starbucks and a friend bought different kinds of cakes for dessert, her treat for not bringing gifts for us.J We then proceed to other place to meet another friend before we called it a day and I went to Greenbelt church to meet hubby and baby Nathan. I still want to see them again, someday.

College Reunion

I had a great college life, I’m quite popular in our department because I spear headed our society plus I'm quite good in academics. I don’t know how that happened when I am just a typical happy go-lucky high school student before. I even asked my class adviser to transferred me two section below from the star section because I can’t stand the fast pace life of being in top section when my thoughts that time was to enjoy being a teenager.

It’s been so many years since I graduated from college and I don’t see them often except for some few whom I got to see once in a while over dinner or lunch dates. So when someone organized a reunion through Facebook, I thought why not? So we set up the date which was moved from time to time because of unavailability of some but it was all worth it when you see them one by one and entering the door of our room in Music 88. I had a blast, we sing and dance as if we never have our own family and the time was so fast there was so much to talk about our lives after college. So set up another meet ups with one of our college friend but that will happen early next year. But I will look forward to be with them again, I spent 4 challenging years of my life with them before and you couldn’t just put that to waste.

Birthday Leave

It’s my birthday leave yesterday and as I promised to my best friend, I went to their house in las pinas and bring along baby Nathan with me. I guess it her deal to bring Nathan with me because she can only see Nathan on my album in Face book. I’m afraid that Nathan will not go to her because she is new to him but my buddy proves otherwise. She makes friends with Nathan right away by giving him some of Angel’s toys and Nathan was very happy with that. I also bring my eldest sister with me because we will go to SM later that day and I didn’t bring Nate’s stroller with us.

How my friend wishes for another baby but they are having a difficult time conceiving after Angel. We talked about many other things while Nathan’s played with Angel’s angry bird collections. But suddenly Nathan’s feel asleep and we decided to just wait with my friend so she can drop us in SM before she goes to pick up Angel in her school. But we just had a deal before we separate, we need to lose weight before Nathan’s first birthday! Haha! Good luck! But we agreed on a free dinner on whoever wins this deal. I really need to focus on this. He he.

Overnight Stay

Honestly, I’m having a second thought of coming to my friends get together in Marriott Hotel. The fact that it’s an overnight stay, I’m feeling guilty that I will take away the only chance we had during weekend, family bonding. But my very understanding hubby insists I should go, its free and not every day that you will have a chance to stay in a 5 star hotel.

I really missed my friends, sometimes online chat is not enough to talk about how life is going in each and every one of us. So I gathered my things, my laptop, my SLR camera and some toiletries and headed to the hotel and meet with my friends. And the rest is history. We just enjoyed every minute together, we ate at Sizzling Pepper Steak restaurant, relax at Coffee Bean and tried the Jacuzzi and sauna that was really relaxing but I choose to dip in the bubble bath tub back in our hotel room.

It’s an overnight stay and the following day is the realization that we have to go home and we were all having a head ache by the lack of sleep. We ate lunch at Pancake house then I’m the first one to get a taxi cab. It’s all worth it. I wish we can have that moment again some other time. Thank God for having friends like them. I feel so lucky.

High school moments

It was supposed to be our sections get together but I know that bringing them all in one occasion is quite difficult and I’m right, the event invitation I posted in Face book raised the same problem of having different schedules and even the place to hold the reunion. Though cancelled, we didn’t gave up that easy, me and my best friend, Emmy, planned a simple dinner at Shakeys in SM Sucat and 4 of us came.  But just the same, we had a time of our life eating and talking about our lives and then continue with our coffee session at Starbucks and reminscing our high school life and our married life and some past happenings.

We all agreed that we should do it more often even thrice a year or if there’s an occasion. I would love to be with them again.

Memory Lane

Being with my high school friends at the 2nd part of our high school reunion brings back all the memories of my happy days at school. My 3rd and 4th year in high school were the most memorable time for me and I got to bond with my classmates and friends more because we all know how closer you can get for almost 4 years of being together. I can see familiar faces in the crowd aside from my class mates but I admit I’m having a hard time recognizing them anymore. The truth is we change, mostly in our physical appearances. Ha-ha! When I pass one table I heard someone whispering to the woman beside her and they’re talking about me. When I take a closer look at them, they wave at me shyly and I found out that they were my cadet’s during our CAT class and I'm their officer. Despite of being this huge, I’m so happy they still recognize me. And I called out my other class mate to have our picture taken for souvenir. I may not be able to see them anymore with our busy lives these days.

My classmates. I was so happy that most of them are now very successful in their chosen careers.

At our classroom in the second floor building of the school but my class mate who happens to be the Values teacher in that school also said it was renovated to be the school library.

A red wine cheers with my highs chool buddies :)

The organizers promised we will have another reunion after 5 years. I will look forward to see them all again.

Happy Reunion

I just didn’t let them know how excited I was for our high school reunion.  I was about to see my long time friends and buddies after 10 years or more since I haven’t got much time to meet them when someone came back from abroad.  I’m curious to know how they look like or what happened to their lives after high school and college.

And it didn’t disappoint me, seeing them and talking to them from the moment I step on the venue in our old high school.  It brings back all our high school memories.  I had my best days in that school with them.  I laugh, cried and fight with them.  And looking at them makes no difference at all they’re still my old high school friends whom I really adore.  I am so proud of what they achieved in life, one is now a OB-Gyne, a successful nurse in the US, a mechanical engineer who owns a trading company and many others.  But above all this, they are still down to earth and willing to help each other and anyway they can.

I had a time of my life taking pictures of them and even after our videoke stint near the area, we had some coffee in a 24/7 fast food and we talked till we saw the sun rise outside.  That’s how we really missed each other.

We once called our all girls group as "Terrific Girls" only 3 didn't make it that night because they from abroad.

We headed to the nearest videoke club after the party.

and we kept on talking and talking till morning :)

I am looking forward to see them all again next Sunday before our friend left to US.

Small Reunion

I’m so sick with my usual ear problem but I already agreed to join our high school small reunion with my class mates and I can’t say no to them just because I have this irritating ear issues. I just rest whole day and drink my medicines and i feel a little okay until I was picked up by my buddy Emylou and went off to Dampa in Paranaque.

We came early at the place and we proceed at the Shylin’s restaurant at the 2nd floor where we can sing our hearts out later. And one by one, I saw them coming, after so many years I came face to face with my friends in which I had a greatest experiences with during my high school days. They haven’t change a bit, same people I know and we talked about the life we had after our graduation. We had so much fun and I’m glad that I don’t let my painful ear change my plans of going out with them. Real friends will always be friends even through the years of not seeing each other. That night was so amazing I couldn’t help talking about it to my hubby. He’s happy that I got to see them too.

Harry Potter Date

My friends in the cyber world organized a blocked screening for Harry Potter 7 at Director’s Club cinema in Mall of Asia last Sunday. It was supposed for the supporters of James and Ann of PBB but unfortunately, James wasn’t able to come because of fever. But good thing the ever cheerful Ann was always there to grace every occasion we planned for them, we watched the movie and we joked and teased Ann on being Hermione in the movie and was torned between Harry and Ron in some cute scenes shown.

Ivan (another PBB teen ex-housemates) dropped by after the movie and we appreciate his gestures for coming over though he was quite tired from the photo shoot that afternoon. We end the night by having a little chat with Ann at Starbucks in Blue Wave.

with ever beautiful Ann Li

Home Again

My friend Mitch who came home from US after 6 years, treat us to a sumptuous lunch at Gerry’s Grill in Tomas Morato.  I came late because they still watched the live show of ASAP in a local TV station just in front of Gerry’s.  It’s like a little reunion and we continue chatting while singing in Music Box for two hours.  Ann Li was supposed to be with us but unfortunately, she was tired from her exams early that morning.

It was a nice bonding and they really sings well ;)  and the rain can’t stop us from enjoying that moment.  In the coming days, Mitch will be very busy on her errands and I just hope we can still see each other before she left to US next month.

They said we looked like sisters :)

Bon Voyage!

Doc Ed will be leaving to Singapore this Tuesday but he never forgot to meet us that Sunday.  We ate at Chillis in Greenbelt 5 in Makati and we talked about his 3 weeks stint in Italy.  He even gave us a scented rosary and it was really beautiful.  His pictures of the enormous pizzas while they dine at a local restaurant there were awesome.  I want to go there too! Ha-ha!

Ann Li and her friend April came by and we chat as we dig on a veggie salad (but I still don’t like it and I only ate the chicken toppings). But the mini burgers and the pesto pasta were great.   Ann gave Doc Ed a souvenir signed photos and we stayed for an hour in Seattle’s Best.  I'm gonna miss some good times with Doc Ed, he’s one of a person I'd like to talk to, highly intelligent and very accomadating.   He’s a pediatrician and he will specialize in Oncology in Singapore.  We will meet you again, doc, after three years.  Take care of yourself, God bless and thanks for all the wonderful times we had with our fellow Jamli friends.

Karaoke Spree

We spent yet another fun filled day with Cathy last Saturday. After our visits to their shooting location in Rizal last week, I thought I should spare the weekend resting at home and because hubby just arrived from his business trip in Dumaguete City. But he said I can go with my friends and he will just stay and rest. And the rest is history =)

It is my first time (most of us actually) in Centerstage family KTV (in Tomas Morato), it was way too far from my place but it is where we could all meet from those who resides from North or South. It was quite a bonding; Cathy is really jolly and fun to be with. She ate her favorite foods, sings her heart out and tells funny and unseen moments from her stay in PBB house. She gamely dances and sings her favorite songs and she is like a kid having fun in the rain. I really like her positive attitude.

Many are requesting to do it again, but it takes a lot of patience in doing this meet ups, we need to consider Cathy’s schedule and commitments. But she promised that we will meet again if she’s free.
